  • At Gathered Glassblowing Studio, Kacey McCreery will doing a glassblowing demonstration; there will also be music, libations and food

BGSU Team to Demo at GMoG’s 2300⁰ EventTonight!

  • Alli Hoag, Tinna Thorsteindottir and their team from Bowling Green State University will collaborate with the Corning Museum of Art’s Hot Glass Demo team to bring sound and sight together during the creative process in what is sure to be an unforgettable performance during 2300° at The Corning Museum of Glass
  • The annual event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 17, throughout the Museum

Teaching Assistant Applications at Pilchuck Open Dec. 18Tomorrow!

  • Teaching Assistant applications for the 2016 summer session at the Pilchuck Glass School open tomorrow, Dec. 18, and applications are due Feb. 3
  • The primary role of a TA is to support teaching and community building activities within Pilchuck’s unique educational and artistic community

Brien Strancar Exhibition Continues at The WorksEnding Sunday!

  • Brien Strancar has been busy with his residency at The Works in Newark, Ohio, and has an exhibition there that will continue through the end of his residency on Sunday, Dec. 20
  • This show provides the first look at work made during the residency, featuring geometric murrini patterning and geometrically inspired vessels; he will also be showing a second body of work consisting of engraved bottles http://www.attheworks.org/

Brianna Barron Will Present to the Arizona Glass AllianceMonday!

  • BGSU graduate student Brianna Barron will give a presentation to the Arizona Glass Alliance Monday evening, Dec. 21 http://azglassalliance.org/
  • Brianna has pursued her education in glass at Pilchuck, Penland, and Oxbow School in Michigan, and her work has been exhibited at the Ken Saunders Gallery in Chicago
  • She has worked as a glass blower at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit and has completed the assistantship program at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Va.

Schack Art Center Seeking Glass Studio ManagerNew!

  • Schack Art Center and its director John Kiley are seeking a glass studio manager
  • The facility is in Everett, Wash., about 30 miles north of Seattle; http://tinyurl.com/gnd4xgt
  • The glass studio manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the hot shop, cold shop, sandblasting, flame and kiln and glass casting studios, as well as classes and special events in those studios

Dan Mirer to Lead Workshop at TMANew!

  • Dan Mirer of Corning, N.Y., will lead a workshop at TMA’s Glass Pavilion exploring the use of air entrapment to create images and patterns in glass
  • Working in the hot and cold shops, students will learn the traditional graal and ariel processes and also explore new ways to make bubbles in glass
  • Titled “Bubble Ways,” the workshop is for advanced level students or independent renter status; fees are $450 for members and $500 for nonmembers

  • Mirer will also have a GAPP (Guest Artist Pavilion Project ) visiting artist residency at TMA Feb. 22 through 26
  • He began his glass education at age 16, attending the Rochester Institute of Technology

  • The previous visual arts editor, Tahree Lane, retired Oct. 2 after 32 years at The Blade
  • Gedert studied journalism at Ohio State and says she has long had a strong interest in art

Glass Included in Display at Juvenile Justice CenterNew!

  • The second item in the Art section of the Weekender today reports on an exhibition of artwork by participants in the art enrichment program at the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center
  • The exhibition is on the first and second floors of the Justice Center, 1801 Spielbusch Ave.
  • The art enrichment program connects youngsters involved with the court with programs at the Toledo Museum of Art
  • According to the item in The Blade, the exhibition includes 91 works created by 41 young people who may be on probation, in detention or in foster care

Call for Art Issued by Owens Center and River House Arts

  • Artists residing in Great Lakes states are invited to submit work for a juried exhibition titled “Borders,” which will be hosted by Owens Center for Fine and Performing Arts and River House Arts in Northwest Ohio
  • The juror is the award-winning Detroit-based arts writer and critic Sarah Rose Sharp
  • Exhibition dates are March 4 through 31, 2016
  • Owens and River House are seeking works that explore the lines, boundaries and edges of contemporary life, including social, political and geographic limits, as well as those related to artistic practice or personal identity
  • Any size and medium of work will be considered including two-dimensional and three-dimensional works and installations
  • Submissions from artists 18 years of age and older will be accepted through the online service CaFÉ at CallForEntry.org through Feb. 1

Deadline For 2017 GAS Conference Proposals Extended to Jan. 15

  • Artists and scholars are invited to submit presentation proposals for the 46th annual Glass Art Society conference through the extended deadline of Jan. 15, 2016
  • The 46th conference will be hosted by the Chrysler Museum of Art and its Perry Glass Studio in Norfolk, Va., from June 1–3, 2017
  • The 2017 GAS conference theme is Reflections from the Edge: Glass, Art, and Performance
  • Artists are encouraged to highlight the theme in their proposals, and can apply to present performances, technical demonstrations, lectures, panel discussions, and/or film screenings

Erwin Redl at Carl Solway Gallery in Cincinnati

  • The Carl Solway Gallery in Cincinnati is showing work by Erwin Redl, who had a GAPP residency at the Toledo Museum of Art in 2013 http://www.solwaygallery.com/
  • The exhibition at Solway features work from 2010-2015, including an installation composed of digitally controlled LED light sculptures, kinetic sculpture, drawings and prints
  • An Austrian-born artist based in Bowling Green and New York City, Redl is best known for large-scale light installations for art museums, public buildings and corporations; his work transforms the medium of light into immersive, tangible experiences for viewers
  • The exhibition continues through Dec. 23
  • At the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, you can see another piece installed earlier this year by artist Erwin Redl, titled Cincinnati Swing;  from the first to the sixth floor, Redl installed white lights that blink and sway like pendulums; the resulting display can be seen all over the center and is only amplified by the windows, glass ceilings and reflective surfaces scattered throughout the building; Redl explains his installation as a “dynamic system with 160 pendula placed on the 107 foot high back wall”

Peter Bremers Exhibition at Hawk Galleries

  • There is an exhibition of glass sculpture by artist Peter Bremers at Hawk Galleries, Columbus

Sten Neuber “Owlet” Selected for Craft Exhibition in Evansville

  • Radioactive Owlet by Sten Neuber has been chosen for the 44th Mid-States Craft Exhibition at the Evansville Museum in Evansville, Ind. http://www.emuseum.org/
  • The exhibition will be on display from Jan. 17 through March 6, 2016
  • There will be an awards ceremony and reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 23
  • Open to artists residing in the six states of Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Missouri, the competition features ceramics, glass, textiles, metalwork, wood and mixed media

Mark Matthews Teaching at Corning in February

  • Mark Matthews will conduct his constantly evolving and innovative workshop “Color and Graphic Systems in Glass” at The Studio within the Corning Museum of Glass, Feb. 8 through 13

Joey Kirkpatrick and Flora C. Mace at Museum of Glass

  • The exhibition Joey Kirkpatrick and Flora C. Mace: Every Soil Bears Not Everything continues through May 15, 2016 at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Wash. http://tinyurl.com/obxx4t5
  • Joey Kirkpatrick and Flora C. Mace are pioneers of early contemporary glass and were close colleagues of Dale Chihuly and William Morris, often trading skills to develop signature works
