Saturday's Upcoming Pesentation
RSVP Today for Saturday's Habatat-Zoom
This weekend I have a special plan for Saturday's Habatat-Zoom. We last exhibited artist Mike da Ponte's work at the Pop and Lock Exhibition in 2019 during the Glass International. Da Ponte is February's Not Grandma's Glass (NGG) presenter and I am honored to have him join us to speak about his life, work, and career. His life began with his adoption. This experience eventually led to him discovering a personal balance of who he is and he has his adoptive parents to thank.
The artist explains: “I possess many qualities and characteristics that are almost identical to my parents. While a lot of my art embraces similarities and differences, I think it is important to understand one's own path and reflect on who we are as an individual."
He is also a student and friend of artists John Miller, Slate Grove, and John Moran. To quote da Ponte: “These three guys really opened the door wide for me with glassmaking. They have supported my goals and continue to teach and inspire me to this day."
Da Ponte is not only an artist, he is a teacher as well. He is currently a shop technician for a high school glass studio! It is amazing to hear that a high school is promoting the medium.
This talk will be Saturday, February 4th, at 1:00 p.m. ET via Habatat-Zoom.
