Michigan Glass Project Raises $80,000 for Art Road DetroitWow!

  • This week, the Michigan Glass Project handed over its largest check ever to Art Road Nonprofit, the only 501c3 nonprofit in Michigan actively bringing art classes back into schools
  • The $80,000 contribution was Art Road’s largest single donation since 2002
  • MGP’s mission is to unite the artistic glass community through charitable events that showcase the talent and culture of Michigan
  • Art Road’s Mission is to see that children throughout Southeastern Michigan have access to art instruction; the organization provides special arts activity classes, including supplies and an instructor, at no cost to elementary schools that lack art programs
  • The classes are single- or multi-day sessions that introduce children to the work of artists, provide historical perspective and bring the entire experience into focus with hands-on creative arts projects such as painting, drawing, sculpture or mixed media
  • MGP raises money for Art Road through its annual Main Event and auctions of donated glass artwork; the Main Event (July 22-24 this year) featured 100 glassblowers from around the country, 25 graffiti artists and 63 vendors
  • Marc VandenBerg and Adam Thomas of The Juicebox Studio in Detroit are among the glass artists active in MGP
