News from Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass

  • Madison-based artist Lisa Koch began her career as a scientist researching cell division. Her passion for the arts drove her towards an MFA in Sculptural and Dimensional Studies with an emphasis in glass. Her work investigates the cloud imagery which is symbolic of the travel of matter and the mixing of information that takes place.

  • Kristin Thielking and Lisa Beth Robinson – 6:00 p.m. CST on 7/16/2020 via Zoom.
  • Artists Lisa Beth Robinson and Kristin Thielking sit down with Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Casey Eichhorn to discuss their ongoing work with the Catching a Wave Collective, a collaborative partnership between universities, organizations and scholars based in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland. Partnering with John McCord and the Coastal Studies Institute at East Carolina University, Robinson and Thielking set out to create a three-dimensional image of the surface of a wave, which would later be represented in the form of cast glass wavelets – previously on display at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass as part of Sharper Edges: Women Working on the Edge of Glass. Registration for the Zoom session is free and will begin 7/9/2020.

Call for Artists for Mix the Medias!

  • Mix the Medias exhibition features pop culture art inspired by comics, movies, and more.
  • This exhibition coincides with SOL CON the Brown, Black, and Indigenous Comics Expo that will take place at Glass Axis. SOL CON artists will be provided comic art for the walls but we need you to fill the rest of our gallery space! Your art can be inspired by comics or any pop culture entertainment. As a glass art facility we would prefer all work to contain some glass elements, however, we want to exhibit as much art for artists as possible during this time, so we are accepting all media entries. Artists receive 60% commission of the pieces sold. No fee to apply.
  • Deadline to enter is July 27, 2020 at midnight.
