- Glass Axis in Columbus has a big fun-filled evening planned with its Glassquerade: Fire & Ice party from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 27
- The fund-raising event will include a glass fashion show, fire dancers, ice carving, silent auction, art raffles, food truck with $5 voucher included with admission, cash bar, free desserts, music and dancing
- The featured glass-blowing demonstration of the evening will be by the very talented and entertaining John Miller, sculptor and associate professor of glass at Illinois State University

- Also soon at Glass Axis, Art Imitates Life by Elizabeth Johnson will open March 11
- Johnson’s show, featuring her hyper realistic glass artwork, will run March 11 through April 23; there will be an opening reception during Franklinton Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 11
- Johnson is an established glass artist featured in numerous galleries across the U.S. and internationally; she has been published in several glass books including 1000 Beads and Contemporary Glass Art
- She currently resides in Boulder, Colo., where she makes her hyper realistic glass artworks using both the torch and pate de verre processes

- The BFA Senior Thesis Exhibition is the final show for students graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University
- It is a juried selection of art in all media that showcases a cohesive and accomplished body of work by each of the talented participating artists
- Four glass students are included in this year’s exhibition: Kara O’Dea, Jon Zap, Davis Hartman and Devin Bader
- The exhibition will be on display from March 20 through April 3 in the Dorothy Uber Bryan and Willard Wankelman Galleries at BGSU
- An opening reception will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 19; the awards presentation will begin at 7 p.m.

- The deadline to apply for a 2016 Palmer Scholarship from the Toledo Museum of Art has been extended to March 31
- The Palmer Scholarship provides funding for travel for an individual(s) to pursue a course of study in an art-related field
- The award recipient(s) will receive up to $8,000 toward the costs of travel—including airfare, hotel and meal expenses—either domestic or abroad, to enhance their studies
- Project examples include advancing creative skills, conducting research and studying educational techniques
- Applicants must reside in northwest Ohio
- The award recipient(s) must complete the travel within one year of notification; awards will be announced in late March

- Looking for a little recognition while helping a good cause? Consider donating to the auction at the 2016 Glass Art Society Conference in Corning
- The GAS Silent Auction is open to all glass artists and suppliers; auction contributors are recognized in the 2016 GAS Journal and on the GAS website (if an image is provided)
- The work will be on display during the conference and seen by hundreds of attendees, including collectors, gallery owners, museum professionals and others; the event is free and open to the public
- Funds raised from the auction help make the GAS conference possible
- Contributors have the option to donate 100 percent of the proceeds to GAS or receive a commission on the sale to help offset production costs
- Contributions assist the Glass Art Society in providing opportunities for artists to connect with colleagues, share information and explore the endless possibilities of glass
- After 30 years in the gallery business, Thomas R. Riley and team are closing up shop in Cleveland
- The gallery will close its doors officially on March 31; in the meantime, the gallery is offering a special discount on its inventory until March 12
- The gallery has emphasized three-dimensional glass art sculptures as well as those in wood, metal, ceramic, fiber and gemstone

- The Indigenous Beauty exhibition that opened this week at the Toledo Museum of Art includes two objects made with glass by Preston Singletary
- Indigenous Beauty: Masterworks of American Indian Art from the Diker Collection features more than 100 objects representing tribes across North America
- Preston Singletary, an artist of Tlingit heritage, is represented in the exhibition by Oystercatcher Rattle, 2011, blown and sand-carved glass, human hair, 22 x 17 x 6 inches
- The second glass sculpture is a Singletary collaboration with Tammy Garcia, an artist of Santa Clara Pueblo heritage: Walrus Ivory, 12 3/4 X 14 inches; the object looks like a ceremonial pipe
- Garcia is also represented by a clay pot that is characteristic of her deeply cut ceramic work

- Buck’s Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp, in New Milford, Conn., is a unique teenage program where campers have the freedom to choose their activities in a supportive, non-competitive environment
- Campers work with qualified, professional artists and teachers who nurture and support their skills and interests in professionally equipped studios
- The camp is actively seeking strong, highly experienced applicants to work with and teach glassblowing to campers (ages 9-16) in its state-of-the-art studio
- Applicants should be 21 years or older, have strong communication skills, teaching experience, and sensitivity to the needs of young artists and adolescents

- A Brooklyn-based artist is seeking a part-time fabricator and cold worker for his team
- The unique opportunity is a blend of physical activity and precision, working on large-scale laminated glass sculptures grinding and polishing within a well-appointed coldshop
- Successful candidates will be required to learn a prescribed and established fabrication technique; a willingness to adapt will be key, as this process is unique to this studio
- The studio produces large-scale glass artworks, so willingness and ability to lift heavy objects, both with and without assistance is important
- Forklift certification is not necessary but the ability to clearly communicate, work around a forklift, and function within a team is critical

- Hot Spot: Contemporary Glass from Private Collections coincides with the 10th anniversary of TMA’s Glass Pavilion
- Featuring approximately 70 sculptural works – selected from area collections for their high quality and artistic significance – the exhibition will show a wide variety of contemporary and historic objects, many never before exhibited publicly
