Habatat Galleries Brilliance Award

A w a r d

Habatat Galleries Detroit is pleased to announce a new award that will be given to a featured artist at Habatat Galleries that is working on the highest levels of innovation, intensity, and imagination within the contemporary glass community.

The Habatat Galleries 2014 Brilliance Award has been awarded to Washington D.C. artist Tim Tate celebrating his new direction with Monet’s Garden Series!

We asked Tim to discuss his work:

"The Monet Garden Series was born from a collector request for sconces flanking her dark wood paneled entrance to her library. I saw this as the perfect project to completely enjoy the materiality of glass...the translucence, the dimensionality and the addition of light.

They are decidedly labor intensive; taking 3 months to complete with over 250 individual lost wax cast glass pieces. The effort was completely evident in the work, and the Monet Garden Series was born.
To help contain the light in the glass, I used imported lead crystal from New Zealand...rich in depth of color and with the ability to look internally lit. My inspiration became my childhood garden and the lush paintings of Monet.

The end product not only illuminated, but it transformed a darkened entrance into something beautiful and inviting. Rich in texture and depth and deeply saturated with color, these pieces truly allowed me to showcase the material we all love so much!” – Tim Tate 2014

We here at Habatat would like to congratulate Tim Tate on his award and look forward to exhibiting his newest body of work!
