Submit Work to New Glass ReviewNew!

  • The Corning Museum of Glass invites artists, craftspeople, designers and architects worldwide to submit images of new works using glass for New Glass Review 37
  • The deadline for submissions is Oct. 1
  • Published by the Museum, New Glass Review is an annual survey of glass in contemporary art, architecture, craft, and design created in the previous year by emerging and established artists, as well as students
  • The works are chosen by a changing jury of curators, artists, designers, art dealers and critics

Chrysler Museum to Host 2017 GAS ConferenceNew!

  • The Glass Art Society (GAS) announced yesterday its selection of the Chrysler Museum of Art and its Perry Glass Studio as host for the 46th annual conference, Reflections from the Edge: Glass, Art and Performance http://www.glassart.org/Events.html
  • From June 1–3, 2017, attendees in Norfolk, Va., will experience demonstrations on various glass processes, lectures on science and art, and numerous special events
  • Participants will also witness one of the Studio’s most exciting features, its groundbreaking theatrical glass performances, for which the Studio is quickly establishing a national reputation
  • The Chrysler Museum boasts an encyclopedic collection of more than 10,000 works in glass, including significant strengths in American, English and French glass
  • “We could not be more delighted for this opportunity to share our incredible state-of-the-art Studio and superb glass collection with the larger glass community,” said Charlotte Potter, manager and programming director of the Chrysler Museum’s Glass Studio, who is spearheading the planning and community partnerships for the 2017 conference

Lino at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of GlassNew!

  • Maestro Lino Tagliapietra will participate in a fundraising event Oct. 9-11 at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah, Wisc.
  • Titled “Art in Motion,” the weekend event includes a walk with Lino through the exhibition Transcending Time – A Survey of Works in Glass by Italian Maestro Lino Tagliapietra

Area Artists in Ohio Craft Museum Show

  • Glass sculptures by Brianna Barron, Kristine Rumman, Adam Sanzenbacher and Ryan Thompson are included in the exhibition Fresh Perspectives: Young Artists with Ohio Connections continuing through Oct. 25 at the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus
  • The fourth edition of the Museum’s emerging artists series showcases work in clay, glass, metal, fiber and mixed media, by 38 young artists with ties to Ohio

Goldberg, Thompson Sculpture at Hudson Gallery

Glass Axis and Hawk Galleries present Nancy Callan

  • Exhibition opening Thursday, Sept. 24, at Hawk Galleries, 153 East Main St., Columbus
  • Demonstrations on Friday, Sept. 25, at Glass Axis Studio, 610 W. Town St., Columbus
  • Meet visiting artists Nancy Callan and Steve Jensen at Hawk Galleries from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24; Callan and Jensen will discuss their independent work and careers with an exhibition and informal artist talks; their work will be on view at the gallery through Nov. 8
  • A free glass blowing demonstration by Callan will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Glass Axis Studio

TMA Glass Studio seeks Assistant Manager

  • The Toledo Museum of Art is seeking an assistant manager who will work with the glass studio manager in the daily operations of the multi-use, state-of-the-art facility that is a major site for the museum’s programming, education and special events
  • The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the technical staff in maintaining studio operations, which include hot glass, flame working, kiln forming and stained glass studios as well as a mold-making and cold-working shop
  • The position will be lead on all maintenance related activity and assist in planning long-term projects taking place in the Glass Studio
  • Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree and have a minimum of two years working in a glass studio performing similar duties; a minimum of one year experience managing a glass or art studio, as well as basic mechanical knowledge of glass studio machinery, tools, electrical and plumbing systems is desired, as is experience with glass demonstrations, or at minimum experience working with glass in an educational or practical glass studio environment

TMA Glass Studio has Two More Openings

  • The Toledo Museum of Art is seeking a Glass Studio demonstrator/facilitator and a glass technician
  • The demonstrator/facilitator is a part-time position working directly with the Museum’s visitors both as a glass-making demonstrator and as a hands-on facilitator giving participants a first-hand experience in the art of glassmaking; the individual may also assist with production work or classes in the glass studio; work is scheduled on as-needed basis and there is no guarantee of any minimum number of hours in any timeframe
  • The glass technician opening is a front line position responsible for the smooth and effective implementation of Museum functions that occur in the Glass Studios; core responsibilities deal with customer service, studio stewardship, basic maintenance, organization and preparedness for daily operations

Pittsburgh Glass Center Auction Sept. 25

  • “Art on Fire,” Pittsburgh’s only glass art auction will be held on Friday, Sept. 25

“502” Celebrates Louisville’s Glass History

  • An exhibition titled “502” at Flame Run, 815 W. Market St., Louisville, is celebrating the forerunners of Louisville’s art glass scene today – the private glass studios in garages and back yards that paved the way for the five hot glass studios open in the city today
  • The exhibition continues through Sept. 26
  • The show pays homage to artists who blew glass with “tin-can technology,” artists who figured out how to build furnaces long before you could order one online
  • The show will include work by Brook Forrest White, Jr., and Greg Fleischaker who were the original hot glass artists at Glassworks in 2001; Howard Wilson, Bob Cheever, Chuck Gerson, Angela St. Vrain, W. G. Rickel, Devyn Baron, Amy Pender, and DH McNabb will also be featured

Fritz Dreisbach Returns for GAPP Residency, Workshop

  • Fritz Dreisbach, the “Johnny Appleseed” of the American Studio Glass movement, returns to Toledo in October as a Guest Artist Pavilion Project (GAPP) resident to create new works of art and teach a four-day workshop
  • Dreisbach will give a free talk about his work at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the GlasSalon
  • The workshop – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15-18 – will cover Dreisbach’s approach to working with a combination of traditional and non-traditional hot and cold techniques to create expressive works of art with a sophisticated form and advanced decoration; during the course of the workshop, students will work in both the hot shop and cold shop using a variety of tools and techniques http://classes.toledomuseum.org/wconnect/ShowGroups.awp
  • Since helping establish the studio glass movement in the 1960s, Dreisbach has traveled the world teaching workshops, presenting lectures and consulting at glass factories

Pilchuck Glass School’s Auction Tour Oct. 28 and 29

  • Pilchuck Glass School’s auction tour for 2015 will be Oct. 28 and 29

SOFA Chicago 2015

  • SOFA Chicago returns to Navy Pier Nov. 6 through 8 with an opening night preview Nov. 5
  • Now in its 22nd year, SOFA Chicago attracts more than 35,000 collectors, museum groups, curators and art patrons to view works of art from 70+ galleries
  • New this year, SOFA Chicago will unveil a revamped floorplan created by Chicago architects Cheryl Noel and Ravi Ricker of Wrap Architecture; the re-envisioned design will create a more open and cohesive show layout, allowing visitors to explore the fair in a more engaging way
