Northwest Ohio Glass Interest Newsletter, Issue 296

Bowling Green, Ohio 3/26/2020–Welcome to the 296th edition of the Northwest Ohio Glass Interest Newsletter.

Please add [email protected] to your safe sender whitelist.  And send us your news and ideas to help us continue support of this community of glass art lovers.    Lee & Milt Hakel, Editors, [email protected]

Artists need support during this time.   Many galleries are putting cataloges on their websites, so you can purchase online.  If you have been thinking of buying from a particular artist, this would be an excellent time to make a purchase.  Also, Ken Saunders suggests this would be a great time to comission a work of glass art. Universities and glass centers are seeking contributions.  Bowling Green State University has set up a site for direct contributions to students. https://falconfunded.bgsu.edu/project/20446. Pittsburgh Glass Center asks you to take out a membership or make a contribution: [email protected].  Check with the institutions near you and find out how you can help.

And consider checking in with artists just to chat and make sure they are OK.  We are all in this together, but the art community needs to be especially supportive of our own.

GAS Asks for Help – New!

  • In a matter of weeks, GAS stepped into action by:
  • Distributing nearly $10,000 in emergency relief money for independent artists,
freelance glassworkers, and small business owners
  • Developing virtual programming that can continue despite social distancing
  • Establishing online resources with other arts partners to help guide members towards additional funding and support
  • However, there are some challenges they cannot take on alone:  The cancellation of the 2020 Conference will leave GAS in a financial hardship. Operated by a staff of five and a volunteer board of directors, GAS is fueled by passionate people like you. Their commitment to their members is the highest priority, but they need help to keep daily operations moving forward.
  • If able, will you make a gift to help GAS moving forward during this challenging time?
