Start making your travel plans to head to Habatat Michigan in September! You are invited to come and celebrate Habatat’s 50th Anniversary live and in person. We have missed seeing everyone over the last year and a half and what better reason to throw a phenomenal glass event than this monumental occasion?
Join us as we have planned an exhibition for which you have been waiting. The most talented artists working with the glass medium will be exhibiting their finest work for you to enjoy. The weekend events will include exhibitions, a MasterWorks auction, artist talks, a demonstration, the famous Friday Night Glass Party, a museum and home tour, the first Habatat Now Live event, grand opening of the VAULT, a new artist fundraiser, and Saturday nights Habatat 50 VIP Dinner celebration. We have a few new events planned including a limited participating Pate de Verre glass class taught by Deanna Clayton, Habatat Limited raffel, the new artist award and more. The VIP Weekend is September 9, 10, & 11 of 2021 and each day includes exciting events. Do not miss out on this live event and make sure you RSVP today!
Artists from around the world have been invited to this event and we expect a large turnout since we all have been apart for so long. During the pandemic Habatat has been pioneering the world of virtual glass art events including Glass48, Glass49, GlassArtFair, GlassCoastWeekend, along with the new annual Not Grandma’s Glass exhibition and the highly apropos Viral Glass exhibition. Aaron Schey has created a treasure trove of digital presentations over the last year via Habatat Now programs which are viewable on YouTube.
Gallery founder Ferdinand Hampson shares his thoughts about Habatat’s Legacy:
Founded in 1971, Habatat has promoted, legitimized, and elevated a new art material to a point of recognition by the art community. Fifty years later we evolved with glass. We continue our efforts towards the mainstream though we are no longer outsiders. Fine art collectors, museums, and noted art publications have in many cases recognized the medium and shared in the excitement of what this material can do and be, in the hands of creative artists worldwide.
During the weekend you will experience the grand opening of the new Habatat VAULT. This new secret exhibition space is one of a kind and will offer a backroom look at the galleries’ hidden treasures. You are invited to explore this large-scale space that offers an impressive glimpse into Habtatat’s backroom. This alone is an experience that should not be missed. The room for this event is limited and you must RSVP to take part.
We will not have a large public Saturday night event as we have done for our past Glass International events so we welcome all those attending to join us for the 50 Years of Habatat Dinner at the gallery. This will only be open to the VIP weekend attendees as we will enjoy a talk about his personal history in studio glass by Habatat’s founder Ferdinand Hampson. Many of the artists will be sharing their stories about the gallery as well.
