Glass is perhaps the most beautiful, yet also one of the most controversial art media. It can be both fragile and rock solid, dangerous and beautiful; it can be intensely colorful or completely transparent. Glass is, in essence, a frozen liquid. Thus, in every glass artwork there is an echo of Faust’s words: “Verweile doch, du bist so schön” (“Stay a while, you are so beautiful”).

Many generations of artistic practice have refined glass technique, bringing it close to perfection. Creating art in glass requires years of training and discipline. Yet it is important for me not to become trapped in this honeypot of beauty and virtuosity. I do not see myself as a glass artist, but rather as a contemporary artist who uses glass as an art medium.

I engage with the cognitive dissonance inherent in glass to reflect the fragile and often contradictory reality of our lives.
