Shari Mendelson Next GAPP Artist at TMA – Beginning This Weekend !

  • Shari Mendelson, an artist from Brooklyn, N.Y., will soon be in Toledo for a GAPP residency Feb. 18-24; she will give a talk about her work at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in the GlasSalon
  • Mendelson has been the recipient of two New York Foundation for the Arts grants and a Pollock-Krasner foundation award; she has had solo shows at Pierogi and Black and Herron Space and has been included in group shows at McKenzie Fine Art, New York City; Jancar Gallery, Los Angeles; and The Brooklyn Museum
  • “My plan for the GAPP Residency is to make a series of new mold-blown glass vessels that reference Roman glass from the 1st – 6th century
  • “Over the past two years I’ve had residencies at Urban Glass in Brooklyn and The Corning Museum of Glass; at these residencies I learned about mold-blown glass – something I had been visually interested in for years but did not technically understand
  • “Using my plastic vessels that are inspired by ancient Roman glass as originals, I made rubber and plaster molds that I used to make mold-blown glass vessels
  • “My proposal for the residency at The Toledo Museum of Art is to expand upon this series of mold-blown vessels”

MFA Opportunities at BGSU – Deadline Sunday!

  • MFA opportunities at Bowling Green State University for anyone interested in graduate studies next year
  • The deadline is this Friday, Feb. 19
  • BGSU will offer 8 to 10 students across all media a full tuition waiver and $10,000 in assistantships a year for the duration of their two-year program
  • Also, a torch working facility has been created, in addition to hot, kiln and cold working facilities, to support a candidate who is interested in flame working

Brien Strancar to Lead Localeyes Tour at TMA – New!

  • Brien Strancar will lead a Localeyes tour at the Toledo Museum of Art beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23
  • If you are not familiar with Localeyes, Toledo community members, including artists, musicians and educators, partner with a TMA docent to guide a tour of art that has personally inspired them

Michigan Regional Glass Exhibition Opens March 5 – New!

  • The Janice Charach Gallery and Albert Young of Michigan Hot Glass are
    pleased to present their second Michigan Regional Glass Exhibition which
    includes residents of Michigan and Ohio
  • Juried by Ferdinand Hampson of Habatat Galleries, the exhibition opens March 5 and continues through April 13
  • An opening reception will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 5
  • Artist awards will be presented
  • Artists this year include: Herb Babcock, Brianna Barron, Emily Cale, Niko Dimitrijevic, Kim Harty, Alli Hoag, Juicebox Studio, Louis Krueger, Loraine Lynn,  Shawn Messenger, Matt Paskiet, Adam Sanzenbacher, Jack Schmidt, Brien Strancar, Tim Stover, Adam Thomas, Marc VandenBerg and Albert Young

Glass Gallery at Greenfield Village Opens April 15

  • The new Davidson Gerson Gallery of Glass at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Mich., will open to the public on April 15 when the Village opens for the season
  • The Davidson Gerson Gallery of Glass will house a survey of the entire history of American glass, from the 18th century to the present
  • The gallery is in the MacDonald and Sons Machine Hall, adjacent to the Glass Hot Shop, which is undergoing a major renovation
  • Studio glass from the Bruce and Ann Bachmann collection will comprise approximately one-third of the exhibit, featuring outstanding pieces made by the most significant artists
  • As part of the events surrounding the Habatat International Invitational Exhibition in late April, The Henry Ford Museum of Innovation and Greenfield Village will host a VIP event

National Call for Entry Ceramics and Glass Artists

  • Brea Art Gallery in Brea, Calif., is calling for entries for an upcoming exhibition
  • This opportunity is open to U.S. artists 18 years and older; artworks must be at least 75 percent handcrafted glass, ceramics or a combination of the two
  • Functional, sculptural and installation pieces are welcome
  • Up to three artworks may be entered for $30, with an entry deadline of April 9
  • Brea residents and ACGA members receive a discounted entry

Call for Entry: Bullseye Projects Artist Residency

Seeking: Glass Manufacturing for 1,000+ Pieces

  • Adam Waimon is looking for a manufacturing source to produce 1,000+ highball/collins glasses
  • The details of the design are still being finalized
  • Waimon is looking for a high volume production shop or small scale manufacturing plant to produce a single design
  • He does not need all 1,000 units at the same time; they could be produced over a period of time

Eamon King in Group of Nine at Hudson Gallery

  • Work by glass artist Eamon King is in the Group of Nine exhibition at Hudson Gallery, 5645 N. Main St., Sylvania, which continues through Feb. 25
  • This year’s artists are Barbara Miner, Ross Mazzupappa, Matt Taylor, Travis Taylor, Lavinia Westfall, Nikki Egerstorfer, Chauncey Hay, Joe Van Kerkhove and Eamon King
  • This is the 10th year for the show, which will feature 35 to 40 works in sculpture, ceramics, glass, painting and photography

Fragile Fashion Exhibition at Glass Axis

  • The gallery exhibition Fragile Fashion at Glass Axis in Columbus, Ohio continues through March 25 www.glassaxis.org
  • The exhibition features wearable glass art inspired by fashion throughout history
  • The majority of the pieces in the exhibition have been worn at previous glass fashion shows at Glass Axis and a Glass Art Society conference
  • Also included will be some of the designs artists are creating for the next Glass Fashion Show at Glass Axis March 4
