Art Loop This Month is Nov. 17Tonight!

  • The third-Thursday Art Loop this month takes place today, Nov. 17
  • Galleries downtown will be open from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
  • Lathe-worker and glass pipe maker Paul Otermat will be the featured artist at Gathered Glassblowing Studio; live music will be performed by Katelyn Vallier
  • River House Arts will open a new exhibition space on the 6th floor of 425 Jefferson Avenue; the first exhibition in that space will be ‘Strange Terrain’ by Mark Why, including one piece in glass

River House Arts Adds Sixth Floor Exhibition SpaceOpening Tonight!

  • River House Arts, at 425 Jefferson Avenue, Toledo, will open a new exhibition space tonight on the 6th floor of the same building
  • The first exhibition in that space is ‘Strange Terrain’ by Mark Why, including one piece in glass
  • There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Nov.17, during the Art Loop

Habatat Galleries Hosting Third Annual Glass Weekend in SarasotaNew!

  • Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a division of Ringling College in Sarasota, Fla., and Habatat Galleries of Royal Oak, Mich., are collaborating again to host the 3rd Annual Contemporary Glass Weekend in Sarasota
  • Beginning Jan. 26, leading artists from around the world will represent their countries in a spectacular four-day exhibitions of studio glass
  • The event includes exhibitions, auctions, studio tours, talks by artists, glass blowing demonstrations and private tours of museums featuring glass

Joseph Cavalieri Exhibition at Glass Axis

  • Master stained glass artist Joseph Cavalieri has a solo exhibition at Glass Axis, 610 W. Town St., Columbus
  • Titled Off Axis: Portraits in Stained Glass, the exhibiton continues through Dec. 17
  • Cavalieri is an award-winning native New York artist and educator
  • His work can be seen in the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Design, the Leslie-Lohman Museum and the Stax Museum http://cavaglass.com

Hawk Galleries Exhibiting Million Dollar Bertil Vallien Boat

  • At SOFA Chicago, Hawk Galleries of Columbus, Ohio, unveiled a highly acclaimed million-dollar boat made by artist Bertil Vallien
  • Titled Passage, the work is the latest product of a fruitful partnership between Vallien, one of the world’s leading artists, and Kosta Boda, Sweden’s most storied glassworks and Vallien’s longtime employer and partner
  • The cast glass boat is 100 inches long and is suspended in a wooden cabinet that stands more than six feet tall
  • The sculpture is now on display at Hawk Galleries in Columbus in an exhibition that continues through Dec. 31 http://hawkgalleries.com/

Adam Blaue Gallery in Cleveland

  • I found a new (to me) Cleveland-area gallery at SOFA
  • Adam Blaue Gallery opened this past spring and focuses on art fairs and online sales
  • The gallery represents the work of established and emerging artists working in glass, wood, metal and mixed media
  • Gallery director is Cheri Discenzo, who was at the Thomas R. Riley Galleries in Cleveland until Riley recently retired and closed the gallery; her number is 917-565-0347

Call For Exhibition Proposals: Pittsburgh Glass Center

  • The Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC) seeks proposals for a solo or group show to be presented at PGC from May 5 through July 30, 2017
  • Artists working in glass are invited to submit ideas for an exhibition featuring new or existing work by Dec. 15

GAS Launches Facebook Group

  • The Glass Art Society (GAS)’s Facebook Group has been launched
  • It is an online platform for the international community of GAS members and glass enthusiasts to congregate, connect and converse

Members Asked to Nominate New GAS Board Member

  • In June 2017, the Glass Art Society will be filling one seat on the Board of Directors
  • Members are asked to nominate individuals who they believe possess a breadth of experience, can provide critical and visionary leadership skills and have an interest in assisting GAS

Robin and Julia Rogers Exhibition at Gathered

  • Gathered Glassblowing Studio has an exhibition of glass sculpture by Robin and Julia Rogers, who formerly lived in our area and are now in Norfolk, Va.
  • The couple had a residency at Gathered past week, during which they created new work in their Animalia Fantastica series
  • The exhibition continues through November

Kim Harty in Detroit Two-Person Show

  • Kim Harty, assistant professor and section head of glass at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, has work in a two-person exhibition at Holding House, 3546 Michigan Ave., Detroit
  • Also in the exhibition is Brian Caponi, instructor and chair of ceramics at Oakland Community College, in Royal Oak, Mich.
  • To Touch the Sky with Two Arms explores a variety of media in an effort to make the intangible tangible; both artists exhibit a nuanced and poetic approach toward recording objects and images which often remain just out of reach: light and shadow, a sense of home, memory or celestial bodies

Joel O’Dorisio Glass at Art Access Gallery, Columbus

  • Glass sculpture by Joel O’Dorisio is included in an exhibition at Art Access Gallery in Columbus, Ohio, through Nov. 26
  • O’Dorisio is a lecturer in the School of Art at Bowling Green State University
